Derek is an avid diver and photographer, capturing images of an underwater world that most of us would otherwise never see. I am grateful that he has allowed me to use some of his photos as inspiration for my paintings.
Jim Auzins is fascinated by the abundance and variety of ocean life just below the surface, and his website shares not only beautiful photos but also interesting information about the species he encounters.
I am grateful for his permission to paint from some of his images.
PIAS is a group of local artists of all ages and experience levels. We hold local workshops twice a month, as well as classes by off-island experts. We also host two gallery shows every year: A Brush With Spring in May, and le petit Salon in November.
During the pandemic, these were transitioned to mainly online activities. Now, in 2023, we are delighted to be able to return (with caution) to our usual workshops and shows.
Ptarmigan Arts is a registered, charitable arts organization with a mandate to deliver community arts outreach programs (music, theatre, dance and the visual arts). We work to ensure our educational programs are accessible to all. We focus on community building through the arts and work to ensure that our programs are presented in accessible community venues and are readily available to people who are challenged by financial, physical, mental or geographic barriers.
Currently Ptarmigan is concentrating on providing arts programs in the Southern Gulf Islands and Southern Vancouver Island. Visual artists on Pender Island have the opportunity to show their work in the Gallery at Hope Bay.
As an artist, illustrator, author, educator and inspirational speaker, Sarah brings a unique combination of talent, humour and insight to all of her work. Whether it's illustrations for books or businesses, cover design, travel journals, nature studies or sketching, her creative approach is a delight.
The Marine Detective is Jackie Hildering, a biology teacher, cold water diver, underwater photographer and Humpback Whale researcher living on NE Vancouver Island, BC.
She raises awareness, wonder and curiosity about life in the local waters, leading to greater knowledge, appreciation and positive action for our fragile, beautiful (and often astonishing!) ocean.
Her posts and photos are full of both art and science as she explores and explains the mysteries of the deep; her passion for the planet and its creatures is inspiring.
I am grateful to Jackie for her permission to use some of her photos as inspiration for my paintings.
