Mahonia aquifolium (aka Oregon grape) is one of the beautiful native species in our forest understory. The little chorus frogs are amazing; they change colour as needed for camouflage, and despite their tiny size, emit a LOUD call (except when they feel danger...then, they are quiet). Their calls are especially energetic during the spring mating season, when their choruses are a raucous symphony of hopeful competition.
